Volunteer Activity over 35 hours
Out Here Ski and Snowboard Club 100+ hours
I continue to be actively involved with the OUT HERE Ski and Snowboard Club, and this experience has become much more than what I would traditionally consider “volunteer work.” My involvement is driven by a genuine passion for bringing skiers and snowboarders together and creating a sense of community around shared experiences in the mountains. Through my roles as a member, assistant manager, and club manager, I have helped plan trips, organize events, and support the overall direction of the club, all while working with students from a wide range of backgrounds and experience levels.
Being part of the club has encouraged me to reflect on how community is built and sustained. Not everyone comes to outdoor recreation with the same access, confidence, or cultural relationship to skiing and snowboarding, and I have become more aware of the responsibility that comes with leadership in these spaces. I often find myself thinking about how decisions around pricing, communication, and event planning can either include or unintentionally exclude people. This awareness has shaped how I approach leadership, encouraging me to be more thoughtful, flexible, and empathetic.
Rather than viewing my involvement as an obligation, I see it as a meaningful way to connect people, foster belonging, and share something I care deeply about. Working with the OUT HERE Ski and Snowboard Club has helped me better understand how recreation, culture, and identity intersect, and it continues to influence how I show up as a leader and community member. This ongoing experience has strengthened my global mindset by reminding me that inclusion and connection matter just as much in informal, passion‑driven spaces as they do in professional or international settings.
